Latest video:
Log splitter to firewood processor conversion. Taking an electric-hydraulic 7 tonne splitting force log splitter and converting it to a homemade firewood processor. The drawbacks of the current log splitter are the low height, single edge wedge and no firewood pan around the wedge so you have to constantly pick up pieces of wood you still want to split making the handling of the wood time consuming and annoying. Still better than splitting the wood with an axe though! Also you have to pre-cut the material you want to split. My plan is to put this log splitter on wheels, weld some steel to the trailer and around the wedge, add a log feed conveyor and a chain saw blade with separate electric motor and call it a firewood processor. It will make the firewood making process much simpler. Why haven't we done it sooner... It will take a log up to 3 m in length on the feed conveyor and a 35 cm cut log in the splitter since the stroke of the splitter is only 40 cm. I had to leave extra 5 cm wiggle room. But it's okay - our fireplaces are quite small. My sauna stove takes even as small as 25 cm firewood, and also my workshop stove. In addition to this creation I want to build firewood crates so we don't have to stack firewood ever again. And moving firewood will be as simple as that - just pick up the crate (with a machine) and deliver it wherever you want/need. No more re-re-re-stacking and unnecessary time consuming wood handling. Sounds like a TV commercial but it will be that good. Come along for the journey!

Interesting build. I have a little 5 ton electric and it gives up on the smallest pieces of wood. I can do big stuff but only if it already has a crack in it. I'd love to build an electric splitter that is rated in the 10-20t range. Also I used to always get my wood in pole lengths. I'd rather do the majority of the work close to home.

You should replace the original "V" wedge with just a straight split wedge. Don't build further on a poor design if it isn't working great in the beginning. This is why you're getting all the turning wood after the splitter. Most commercial processors are just staggered, 4 or 6- way blades. If it's a little frustrating now, its only going to frustrate you more in the future. Otherwise good build and keep up the great work

The trouble I have with all your videos is you forget that here in the US lot of us are still on imperial measurements, therefore all your measurements get tire-son of translating, I know sounds like a personal problem, so I'll watch them anyways. @ 14:37 2,2 kw and 2,6 kw, need translation, far as know chainsaw are cc. I seen all kinds of wood processors and they all all all have that slash problem, lots and lots of slash and the reason is they all dont have adjustable horizontal wedges and the reason is it must be to hard for people to make. When it comes to firewood processing one size dont fit ALL........

@Donn DIY i have a lot of oak, and the little splitter is slower than most but with these extra wedges we can make up for slow speed with more pieces per stroke. excellent. keep up the great work man. the other thing about these little ones is they fall off stuff so easily... i actually dropped mine on the concrete by accident when it slipped off the back of a pickup while splitting. cracked the aluminum piece that connects the motor to cylinder and had to cut that part off and thread flexible hydraulic lines in. i think i must need a reservoir or larger return tube now down near the motor because i can hear it cavitating sometimes. anyway thx again. sometimes people wonder why i'm cheap with stuff like this but $2000 on a new larger splitter seems like too much when i could spend the money and time on tools and fabrication experience as you have.

It is small but really powerful splitter. We don't have Oak around here for firewood but a lot of Alder. This firewood processor will be used mainly for Alder. And I want to tow it around behind the ATV, that's why it will be sized small. I'm glad this video is an inspiration! 💪

Our process is simple, cut tree down then into blocks split it where it lies and pile it where we split it as we split it. When we need it we haul to the house in enough quantity to last the winter. We always have 3 years ahead. we dont pick round blocks and haul them to one location to split. I refuse to handle wood for no reason. The wood dries just as good in the bush as it does in the yard and I dont have to clean up afterward.

oi, you don't start fire that way. you need some kindling. unless you cheat and douse logs with petrol. i don't recommend. and i bet your grandpa knows how to build stack so that it does not need support, would like to see that :) y'know, corner logs jenga. there is a word for that but that eludes me at moment. could show my stack i built myself but too lazy to go outside and take pic. googled 'puuriit' and found some.

I'm impressed! Try adding a short extension on the ram, with a vertical slot cut into it, so that it can push the log *past* the vertical cutter. This way the next log will contact the vertical cutter first instead of contacting the previous log first and being pulled to one side.

Wouldn't it be better if the outfeed table was angle downward so that the split logs slide downward? At that point you could rig a conveyor belt to move the logs to a loading point away from the wood processor.

It would be. But the hydraulic ram is moving under the table horizontally. It has to clear the table. I mention it in the video too.

Huvitav igal juhul. Edu tegemistel!

Vertikaalsete plokkide lisamine on väga hea mõte. Nagunii tuleb palgieendelaud presstalla külge kinnitada, saan pressile siis ühe soojaga modifikatsioonid ka ära teha. 🤘
