First video in series of many. Building a partition wall for the machine shop in the old barn to have a heated place where I can store my motorcycles, house the lathe, welder, drill press, work bench etc so I can work on stuff when it is freezing outside like it is at the moment. Starting the build by getting wool and OSB sheets inside and creating a level surface where I can attach the sandwich walls made from OSB, home cut 50x100mm lumber and rock wool. The floor will be poured in over the old one later on from concrete when the walls are up and ceiling is insulated so the concrete can cure in plus degrees Celsius. This will be the first stage of the machine shop build. In the future I'm eager to remove the old wooden beam construction you see in the video completely since it is half rotten, raise the ceiling and have a two post car lift installed with proper level floors and other things that are required for auto repair. That's what I strive for anyway since I drive beater cars. They inevitably need constant tinkering and repairs. I will continue this build tomorrow and throughout the upcoming week and as long as it takes to get me where I need to be with this build. Next video in a week. Stay tuned and thanks for watching!

She’s a beast donn! Absolutely loved watching the build series. That said I knew she’d be to heavy for the water from the beginning. May I respectfully recommend smaller wheels with bigger sidewall tires. It’ll help in the water and improve the ride quality!

Hey buddy why are you making the same fault as a lot of other do it yourself engineers? It needs two differentials, two clutches one package on each side! You should be able to interrupt the torque for turn and steering! Otherwise, you will get really troubles and damages by using of the standard differential. It does not made for this work. And your engine is not big enough to develop the needed torque too It means you need a second gearbox too. I know it sounds very bad, but it the fact. Do not waste your time and mony for this project. Make it on the right way at beginning, your investment is not huge up to now. And the parts can be reused again. There are a lot of videos about it. Just search on EEpost.

See, mida ma praegu ehitan, on töökoja esimene etapp. Teises tuleks katus ja vana vahelagi eemaldada, müürid kõrgemaks valada ja fermidega katus peale ehitada. Eks näis, kuidas sellega jõuab ja saab. Projekti hinda langetab enda saetud ehituslik pruss rohkem kui kiloeuri väärtuses. Saeraam on hea asi.

Teen vanasse karjalauta sooja "machine shop"-i treipingi, keevituse jm jaoks. Püsi lainel! ;)

The resin which is used to press the strands together in Oriented Strand Board is moisture proof. It wont have any problems inside the barn, since there will be no direct contact with the concrete. Nor will there be a wet room inside the workshop which would mean extra protection for the OSB.

If you put a back boiler on the woodstove, & run some pipe in the concrete you will have some thermal mass to slow release the heat. A thin polystyrene insulation down before the pour, cable tie the MDPE or PEX pipe (done some research (the mdpe should last 40 years, the pex around 20 odd) to the rebar & you will be all set for the coming ice age. LOL
Donn DIY
Donn DIY Aasta tagasi
I was actually thinking about that solution. It is great idea. But... For my needs it'll be too fancy at the moment. And I might end up wanting to anchor something down to the floor and having tubes in it will make it impossible. I have a sawdust stove which will burn 8 hours nonstop and give out slow heat. That'll work for now I guess. And it's in my budget. :D But for an area where I'm sure I'm not going to drill any holes into the floor it'll be perfect, say a place for a motorcycle or car maintenance or something similar. It would be nice to lay down on my side on a warm concrete floor if needed. :)

Its probably too late for this project, but maybe you can consider this suggestion for the next one? You can place the wooden 'floor' beams on a bed of strong cement mortar (including your damp proof membrane). This will help level them out in all directions. You don't have to make the mortar very wet, so its easy to place and level the beams. And once the mortar dries, you have 100% weight transfer between the beams and the floor. Hope this trick comes in handy one day :)
Greg Mislick

@Donn DIY you should soak those leveling shims in the green stuff too. But if there will be concrete poured I guess it doesnt matter. Looks good so far !
Donn DIY
Donn DIY Aasta tagasi
The wall panels will be extremely rigid due to the OSB. All of the panels are supported from the corners and from the center, too, since the leveling shims are placed accordingly. The base I created will be filled with concrete underneath. Even if it gets a little crooked it'll still be the straightest part in this barn due to the poor prior to and during Soviet time building quality of this barn. When I get to the double ceiling (I will build a new insulated independent ceiling under the existing one) and when I get to attaching it to the existing stone wall you'll see what I mean. It is not level or straight in any way.

Well done! This is good plan to make wall modules, then you can just reposition all modules in future if you want.
AFH Projects
AFH Projects Aasta tagasi
@Donn DIY You can add some cheap 3mm floor mat to the joints and roughly screw these modules together with screws in 45° through the osb and 2 by 4s.
Donn DIY
Donn DIY Aasta tagasi
In theory, yes. Although I was thinking about overlapping the inner layer of OSB over the joint areas of two wall panels to make it more airtight which would make repositioning the modules easier later on (should partly remove the wool too). But we'll see how that works out. But another great idea from you, dude! You should've got to me earlier so I could think of different external panel fixtures so I don't have to unscrew the OSB or take out the wool, but just undo the fixtures and voila, move the walls like LEGO. Again, I like your idea! :D And now I can't get it out of my mind.
