Fabricating a supporting steel frame for the tracked amphibious vehicle hull which will make the whole ATV rigid. Welding on square tubing and free cutting steel with angle grinder which, in my opinion, is much faster way than going to the cut off saw and setting clamp angles and such. Also cleaning up rusty rims I took tires off of in the previous episodes. Instead of using just angle grinder and a wire wheel I use electrolysis that works brilliantly. Had to finish up the rims with a wire wheel though to knock off loosened rust. Worked like a charm. Next week I'll be attaching the DC 12 V winches and hopefully completing the hull's bottom half to make it as water tight as an amphibian's supposed to be. :) Thanks for watching! More videos will come. Subscribe for more! Cheers!

Hello friend I love your project about the amphibious vehicle and the reason i think why it is not moving properly in water is because the front is too flat or square from top to bottom it want to have a angle from bottom to top so that the front can cut the water just like a soldier tank

Viimaseapeal keevitused! Kas see "evolution" metallilõikur on hea asi? Kust on soovitatav seda Eestis hankida?

Mulle saadeti konkreetne saag UK-st paar aastat tagasi. Ilmselt on võimalik analooge osta Stokkerist, Tööriistamarketist vms. Töötab hästi, aga paneksin isikliku arvamuse kohaselt pingeritta metallilõikamise saed alustades kõige kehvemast: 1) abrasiivkettaga lõikur - lõikamisel tekib palju sädemeid ja tolmu; 2) kõvasulamhambaga kettaga (Evolution) - tolmuvaba, materjal ei kuumene, aga tekitab palju lärmi; 3) vedelikjahutusega ketassaag - parim vahend väiksema diameetriga materjali järkamiseks, materjali max diameeter oleneb ketta raadiusest; 4) lintsaag - igas suuruses materjali järkamiseks. Kahjuks lähevad aparaadid ka vastavas järjekorras kallimaks.

Hi I have another idea of getting that rust off your wheels but it could be dangerous but I think you're more than capable to handle it... :P 1. Attach the wheel you want to de-rust on driving wheels of your car (ie if it's a Civic you put it on front) 2. Lift driving wheels off the ground and spin those wheels, ask your brother to rev it up 3. Attach a wire brush or something to the long heavy stick 4. Now stick that thing inside the spinning wheel and scrub the hell out of it. Keep your distance because I don't want you to get hurt Now the differential might prevent the wheel you're de-rusting from spinning fast so in that case take brake caliper off on that side, and the driver just left foot brake and give it a rev the good wheel stays put but the rusty wheel should spin. Do you think this might work?

After watching 13 videos in this series, I've gotta wonder: where do you source your grinding wheels, and which ones work out the best? You must be getting a great deal on them in a bulk quantity.

If you could have auto Cad this it would would have speedup the build faster because u would have know all the angles to cut before hand or u could have used fusion 360 ??

No, it wouldn't. I'm building as I go using material I have. If I stick to a CAD design I would have had to first spend time designing it in the computer and stick to the material I used in the computer later during the actual build.

Will you add a propper bow in the front and the rear?
Ruben Kelevra
Ruben Kelevra Aasta tagasi
@Donn DIY ah okay 😙🎶 Still make sure to put a scale under each wheel when you're seated, just to make sure your it floats stable. Put a similar height wood blocks under the others. The earlier you start the better you can still shift some weight. The back should be slightly heavier to get the front a bit higher out of the water. When you add a "lip" in the front, a bit overhanging metal, you can protect it from water ingress by the bow wave. In the back the wall should be slightly higher (and the sides), to compensate for acceleration and the downward force by the tracks running thru water. I would also add a electric pump, to get any water out of your vehicle, just a little bit can give you a serve list. 😂
Donn DIY

No, it will mostly be used on the land so streamlining it for water isn't my primary concern. 😉

You could have had those rims sandblasted for hardly nothing at all, and it would have took no time at all to clean all of them.
Donn DIY
Donn DIY Aasta tagasi
I live quite far from a bigger city where they sandblast steel. Using electrolysis while fabricating other things is time saver for me. I only spend time putting the wheel inside the tub and after washing and wire wheeling the rim and that's it. Otherwise I would have to book a time, drive 45 minutes, pay for fuel and sandblasting service, drive 45 minutes back home. And then go back and pick the rims up again after they've finished sometime in the future since they don't do it ever immediately.

Great project. Two thoughts. You are really going to wish you had some serious suspension system. I tonne of buoyancy is too small. Sure , the vehicle may be lighter, but if you want a decent payload and some cargo capacity. fuel with reserve buoyancy, you need to have more.

For future reference, maybe you could do something like stick weld smaller spaces like between the plow mounts? I would think the stick would be more maneuverable in tight spaces, because of the lack of bulk that comes with a MIG welding torch. Besides, it doesn’t matter if your welds aren’t the prettiest, because stick welders have very high penetration and will make a stronger bond than a MIG of comparable size/strength.

You may want to fabricate some working tables, stations and fixed cutoff areas where you could stand upright when working and not compromise on the ergonomics. You WILL feel it when you get older. Keep up the good work!!

It’s starting to really take shape Donn. I think people have a hard time understanding buoyancy and the relatively simple fact that as long as the volume of water displaced weighs more that the object then it will float. They actually make concrete sailboats so I am sure your tracked ATV will float.
