Milling 50x100 mm lumber for the steel workshop partition walls and ceilings to make a smaller part of the 400 square meter old barn warm so I can heat it. It's a must during the winter. Right now I'm milling old dead spruce and have a couple of them lined up for felling in the woods, too, but when that's not enough I'll have to get some green wood. The mill works good. The alloy wheels need to be balanced in a tire shop. Even though they're straight and don't wobble they start to vibrate at higher speeds. So something is out of balance. I hope you enjoy the milling. I know I do. There's just something about that blade going through the wood like a hot knife through butter. I can look at this continuously for a long period of time, over and over.

Well done. Watched the whole project and can say it’s beefy. One thing I’d do with the dust exhaust is angle it down at 45 degrees and baffle it so it won’t get caught in the shroud.

Really like your mill. I have a couple acres I want to build a house on. Not enough trees to harvest much wood, But if I built a mill, I could buy logs to make lumber and still be better off than the cost of buying all my lumber. Anyway, I like your mill!

Tervitus, kas sul on pilti või seletust, kuidas sul see üles alla liigutamine joonlauaga toimib? Foorumis kirjutad, aga videos ei ole. Asi lihtsalt selles,et iga puuga on ju nullpunk teistsugune, seega peaks joonlauda igakord liigutama, klapib nii ? Mul omal on endatehtud 1,4 diam lõikav kettsaeraam.

Now when the wheels are balanced I can go full throttle and with a fresh blade it rips through the wood in no time. Also the sprocket on the new wheel is a bit smaller which upped the revs and thus the blade speed by a quarter. So all good!

sbirdranch If you watch the older video as he made the sawmill the one wheel was warped and he took it to a tire shop to have it straightened and balanced. In the end he still wasn’t happy with it and felt he could get better blade tension with the alloy wheels.

There's pretty much no difference in performance - just the blade is more stable in the unsupported area just before rolling under the first guide roller. In the older videos you could see how the camera picked up the amplitude of the blade. Now it's just a straight line. Oh yeah - the blade can be pulled tighter, that is the main difference. ;)

@Donn DIY R&R buildings has alot of videos on building pole barns up here he builds them day in day out "Off grid homesteader Cecil E Skinner" has a channel with similar stuff as you do he uses a bench grinder to sharpen the blades and has good luck with it, seems crude but i guess it depends how smooth/high quality you need the cuts

I have a drawing made for a 5,5 x 14 m sawmill shed with a concrete floor and it's in my to-do list. However, first I want to get this corner of the barn closed up so I can work on tedious stuff in comfort. Tedious like a sawmill blade sharpener and a kerf press. :D

Blows my mind. 129,000 people just looking at wood getting cut up. Works for me! I think it has to do with our desire for order and control. You are so methodical in your videos. Step by step. Hei donn. Tundub korralik.
Donn DIY
Donn DIY 2 aastat tagasi
Hei.

I will use the electric motor when I get the mill under the roof. The petrol engine will be just a backup for whatever power outage situation that might occur. So when there's apocalypse and zombies are roaming around I can still cut lumber.

I noticed you roll the logs away from the stationary guide posts so the sawdust debris dose not make for uneven cuts. A good level clean saw bed is always a plus. I don't remember if you have the motor and drive belts covered so they stay out of the rain and sun, but if they are they will last longer maybe. Good luck, I hope you can close in the shop while it is still kinda warm outside yet. Are you going to build a Rocket type heater for the shop?
Donn DIY
Donn DIY 2 aastat tagasi
I'm using a belt on the mill that originates back to the times when my grandfather still drove his USSR T-100 tracked dozer. It must have been at least a couple of decades ago and this belt is still kicking. Eventually the mill be under the roof without direct sunlight so I will not bother with a belt cover. :D I'm just that lazy. I'm gonna go with a Bullerjan type of wood stove and add the sawdust stove in the mix there to utilize the sawdust coming from the sawmill.
