hi, I'm from Russia. I would like to know how you can make a band sawmill the smallest way of spending money, but in fact I have three children, I can not create an expensive sawmill, everything is very expensive for us. tell me, please. and what's the best thing to do? waiting for an answer. if there is an opportunity, I would like to cooperate with you, with you, as you would tell me how to do what and how to do it. waiting for an answer, thank you very much for your understanding.

Its pretty wood but you need to invent a tree straightener so that all logs come out with five hundred board feet/LOL. It broke my heart when you said that you got rid of the mill. I'm not sure why but its yours and what you do is really just you. Plus you can make one again in half the time now that the whole plan is in your head

I still have this band sawmill, I got rid of the previous chain sawmill. I will keep the band sawmill. I have no plan whatsoever to sell it.

Beautiful wood. What did you make with it? Sorry I saw the end. Gonna be a nice table.

Nice to see how even a young 55 year old American Ash saw bolt can be milled into useful material. Most urban trees today no longer produce one main trunk over 10 Feet in length without required structural pruning after planting to retain strong apical dominance. 100 old Ash trees had been preparing to live another 100+ years until EAB's untimely arrival. So will be alot of quality wood to take advantage of across USA, even if firewood. Some change 25 years ago caused this trees growth rate to slow down, and tight rings make for better wood anyways.

Very awesome you have been around from the sawmill build time. It is already a full year then. Cheers!
Hey Donn, great video of you and a friend making usable lumber out of ash trees. Can't wait to see when he makes the table. I'll try to tune in on his channel and see what happens. Thanks so much for sharing.

A lot of grown in stress in those logs for sure. Watching them move as you cut them was interesting. Take care. Doug
Donn DIY
Donn DIY Aasta tagasi
It really messed up some cuts. And probably the boards as a result came off the sawmill thicker/thinner in different places. But the material was already utilized and the result is awesome.

In the right hands wood that most would only consider to be firewood can be utilized to make beautiful furniture. Ash is a great wood to build with.

This particular tree was a dead tree which just fell down. My friend hauled it home from the forest and had it in storage somewhere and meanwhile I built myself a mill. And the rest is seen in the video. The table he build looks really good, at least on a picture.

I forgot how much work and thought you put into this mill during the build series until I watched this and was admiring the blade guide pulleys and how much adjustment there is in them to keep the blade level so it won't rise up or dive down during the cut. I'm sure they all have that feature but you built this from scratch which still amazes me.

From an economics standpoint - cost for green logs vs kiln-dried dimensional lumber - how much ahead for DIY sawing of logs? Do you use the scaps and sawdust for wood heating? Currently 16" length green firewood is about $225 per 4'x4'x8' size cord. Does sawing a log yield 65% dimensional lumber, 30% firewood scrap and 5% sawdust? Spending thousands on a sawmill vs DIY build... how much sawing before a sawmill pays for itself? One house? How many times sharpening the blade... buying a new one etc... maybe its not a savings so much as the enjoyment from working with your hands and wood...

The fact that this particular sawmill exists is greatly due to my friend I milled the logs for since I got the majority of the material I built the sawmill out of from his car workshop. So no cash switched hands this time. 😎
