Relocating Firewood Is Easy - NO Stacking!

Latest video:
After I processed all of my firewood using my homemade firewood processor and belt conveyor and filling all the IBC totes with wood I hauled these totes to the field where our firewood was usually stacked. Someone on the almighty Internet pointed out that this field might get really wet during the Fall and Winter so I couldn't even get to the totes with the micro skid steer loader so I decided to relocate the totes on a hard packed gravel road behind my barn. One mayor contributing factor to moving the totes was the fact that the IBC crates were in rows in North-South direction behind each other and not getting any sun. Now the totes are aligned in West to East direction and every tote gets the sunshine during the day which should increase the speed of drying/seasoning of the wood. But we'll see. This is the first season I'm using this setup so I have zero experience with this. Stay tuned for future videos! Thanks for watching!

It might be a good idea to turn them so the water running off covers does not dump into the crates on each side that would probably speed up dry time a little too

Enjoying your "EEposts". I'm especially interested in DIY saw mills, but all projects are interesting and well thought out. Your "EEpost" site says your location is the United States, yet the scenery, structures, utilities, clothing and vehicles in you videos are obviously Euro or Eastern European. Also the labels on your equipment are not in English. So Donn where are really located ? Thank you.

Hi Donn - just found your channel and I like it. I do a bit of firewood for people in North Wales, but don't have anywhere near your quantity. We have a lot of sideways rain here, not sure if you do too? But if your logs are constantly getting wet and then drying, they'll get microbial/fungal growths forming on the prevailing wind side, which can stop the wood seasoning properly. This can ultimately lead to spongy wood, cos nature has taken all your wood density, turned it into gas, and released it to the four winds! Very impressed with what you've got there, keep up the cool work and thanks for the channel

Nope. That's the perk of living in Estonia - we do have a couple of snake species but only one is slightly venomous (not a life threat) and no dangerous spiders either. So all good.

Snoobster 3 місяці tagasi
@Donn DIY Mhm , tänud info eest :), aga üldjuhul kompaktne ongi kallim, äkki kunagi tulekul ka projekt kus endal talu jaoks ehitad uue laaduri või mini kalluri laadse asja, oleks huvitav jälgida ja proovida järgi teha, sest silindrit küllaltki odavad, vähemalt mulle nii silma jäänud.

GEHL 1620 laadur.

Can't you align them against the building wich is is aligned East West ? Wall radiant heat would help for drying ,like light reflection and the wall would offer some protection for rain. If you want even more surface area exposed ,try to park the crates diagonally, like on a parking lot. Black IBC crates top protection would help too, white is reflective.

Donn DIY
Donn DIY 4 місяці tagasi
Need on rohkem kui ühe talve puud kahele majapidamisele + töökojale. Silikaadihunnik oli üllatustest puhas õnneks. Lauad on surveimmutatud elektripostidest lõigatud.

Do you mean the ground sheet or the IBC "lids"? The ground sheet looks like the stuff I used to use on my dads farm to cover the doors on the chicken sheds (windproofing as the buildings were old) that sheeting has been used for at least 10 years and is still going strong (although one did get ripped by the storms at the start of the year) The IBC "lids" will be fine, on the farm we had an IBC that was put in place in about the year 2000 as a fuel tank for a generator, it was changed out in 2016 for a bunded lockable tank after someone stole 200l out of it.

Rust prevention on the steel framed crates bottoms but mainly getting wooden pallets underneath the crates off the ground - there are three types of bottoms on these crates: wooden, steel and plastic. Also the wind will dry the wood out better creating airflow both on the sides and underneath the totes.
