Making a liquid cooled circular steel chop saw base mobile keeping in mind the "do it yourself" mindset, using simple materials and fast fabrication processes. Instead of welding a complicated frame underneath the chop saw stand I thought this would be more simple, thus a better idea to bring to life. The mobile base consists of the original base cabinet or a stand and two heavy duty rectangular tubes that have angle iron tabs welded to it with the almighty MIG welder. Via the tabs the tubes/legs are then connected to the cabinet with simple fasteners like nuts and bolts. The legs have swiveling wheels in the front and fixed wheels in the rear. To keep the steel saw from moving around while in use I welded two nuts on the sides of the legs and cut two pieces of threaded rods with T handles on top that go through the nuts and finally put pressure on the ground via the special pads. This lifts up the swiveling front wheels, makes the whole base level (rear fixed wheels are lifted with washers) and stable for use. Making workshop tools/machinery mobile is nothing new. There are plenty of videos about it on EEpost and internet. This was just my version of it. Thanks for watching!

very cool project. can this milk be reused or do you need to keep buying it? I'm always concerned about the weight resting on the bolt, which could possibly cut through the sheet walls, which rest on these bolts. not sure how I would go about it, maybe use 4 smaller bolts to distribute the pushing force? or use some kind of nut welded to the wall, then put the bolt bearing the weight through? not trying to look smart, I am very new to working with metal, and just starting to learn how to weld and stuff. just thinking loud, because I have few metal projects coming up and trying to gather as much intel as I can before I screw it (up or together). subscribed. cheers man!

Can't you cancel a bit of noise by reducing the stand panels vibrations ? Sounds like a growly saw, but the cuts are very nice.
Donn DIY
Donn DIY 5 місяців tagasi
It seems the noise comes from the gearbox in the geared saw head. If I were to put the saw on rubber pads this might reduce the noise allthough it is already on rubbery wheels, so I don'y really know. It is much less noisy than Evolution saw though.😀

Watching you lift the saw by its arm made me nervous. I was always under the impression chop/miter saws should only be lifted by the base, otherwise the alignment can get messed up and tolerances go higher. Not sure if there’s actual truth to that, though!

I certainly agree on wheels in a one-man shop (or even two or three-man if there are many more machines than operators). Room to work around a machine is wasted space when it isn't being used.
