In this video of the series of "Workshop Build" videos I'm constructing a wall that will carry partial weight of the old ceiling and building an insulated ceiling from OSB and foam board which should hold the warmth in like a boss. Check it out!

I may have missed it if someone asked about the purple stuff your putting on some of your 2 lumber. I'm guessing it's some kind of a liquid to stop the wood from rotting. I've watched all the work you have done, I like you channel good work and great job as well.

Old dairy barn, over 100 years old, been in our family since my great grandfather bought it in 1930, excluding Soviet occupation period starting from 1940 when it was used as either a state or collective farm and when part of my family was deported to Siberia by USSR. My family got it back when Estonia established freedom again in 1991. That's the brief history of this barn.

are you not afraid that the warm moist air from inside will seep through to the cool surface on the outside (behind the insulation) and water will condense there, rotting away your wood? usually you have to put in between a hermetically sealed plastic sheet (steam-stopper) to avoid that? you could get serious mold problems dude...?
Donn DIY
Donn DIY Aasta tagasi
Nope, I will seal the seams of the OSB sheets with silicon, this should keep the vapor seeping through at the minimum level. And if it does - the OSB is pretty mold proof. Also the workshop will have ventilation which should pull out a lot of that vapor which will not be produced in large quantities anyway. I'm in the state where I just don't care about that enough and let's be honest, if/when it does start to rot it'll take at least 20 years to come down on it's own and by then I'm 50 years old and I'm not sure what goes on then in the world and if the workshop is even needed. :D

Päris hea juba, see topelt lagi on igati hea mõte.
Donn DIY

Kruvid lihtsalt need, mida kõige lähemal kodule kätte saan, ei mingeid eelistusi. Puidukaitsevahendiga sama lugu. Sponsoreeritud ei ole, promo ei tee. Lihtsalt ehitan. ;)

Huvitav, kuidas peno laes toimib? Kas pole ohtu, et soojusega tõusev niiskus sellele kondenseeruma hakkab ja loob hää pinna hallituse kasvuks?
Donn DIY
Donn DIY Aasta tagasi
Kuhu niiskus kondenseeruda võib on lae ülemine OSB kiht, kuna see on külm.

@Donn DIY as a welding in the big company logging camps and equipment operator in this god forgotten cold country Canada, summer it was welding or operating in fflip flops no shirt snd shorts as a standard, it was the hundreds of bug bits that were the danger, but it didnt mater what kind of space suit overalls and balaclavas you put on sitting 20 feet in the air weldinf on a big boom in -50 below with a 40km wind, propane froze in the line coming up to the big torch under the tarp yyou worked under, the flame would slowly die, you were doing so good putting insulation in ceiling, then when you got to the steel shelf you didnt put any,,, going to be cold.. just that thin 2" R6 foam
Donn DIY

Why not put rock wool insulation above your new OSB ceiling, rather than going to all the trouble to cut foam board to fit below it?
Donn DIY
Donn DIY Aasta tagasi
The double OSB will hopefully prevent mice from nesting in the ceiling. And it's easier to build than between the beams.

Donn DIY
Donn DIY Aasta tagasi
Mees Metsast
Mees Metsast Aasta tagasi
Soovitaks ikka kasutada spetsiaalseid plastiktorusid/kõrisid ja kaablid nendest läbi tõmmata- tulevikus saaks vastavalt vajadusele lisada. Veelparem, kui kaablitorud on nähtaval.
